There will be a solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st. This is the first time in 99 years a total solar eclipse has been visible in the USA!! While Findlay is not in the “path of totality”, we will still be able to view a partial eclipse.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon, so be sure you are following safety precautions, as suggested by NASA.
Information on making a pinhole projector can be found here.

  • you must always use a filter to view the eclipse (unless you are in the path of totality, which does NOT include Ohio)
  • do not use homemade filters, or filters older than 3 years
  • do not use scratched or damaged filters
  • normal sunglasses, no matter how dark
  • NEVER look directly at the sun, eclipse or no eclipse!
  • Welder’s glass of rating 12 or higher is safe for viewing the eclipse
  • a telescope is only safe for eclipse viewing when using a solar filter

Lowes, both WalMarts, and the Findlay library are SOLD OUT of viewing glasses. If you know where you can find a pair in the area, please let us know in the comments!
