New local arts promotion business, Ignite the Arts, presented ‘Drag City, USA‘ in the banquet hall above Legends Steakhouse on Saturday, April 22nd. The event was held in benefit of Focus on Friends, a peer-led recovery center in Findlay. Over 150 guests attended – some showing up over an hour in advance to get a good seat.
Emcee, Candi, Wantsome? told a personal story from addiction to recovery through performance over the course of the show. Drag allowed for a heavy story to be shared through creativity and humor. Taj Mahal and Magestik, two members of the Dayton-based Rubi Girls, also took to the stage. Eileen Bothways, friend of Ignite the Arts’ founder, Ashley Donaldson, traveled from London, England to entertain. During the show, she discussed how drag is highly artistic, and not limited by gender – Eileen is a bio-queen, briefly described as a female drag performer.
The headline performer, Ivy Winters, wowed the crowd with a dozen costume changes, juggling, and stilt-walking through the audience.
Donations and assistance were provided by Main Street Deli, Buggy Whip Bakery, Trends, Philip Sugden, Tony O’Brien, UNITED University of Findlay, Mad Hatter, and the Findlay Convention & Visitors Bureau.
