Green Street Challenge

This Saturday, September 28th, the “Green Street Challenge” will see a portion of a downtown road be temporarily transformed into a park. Grass sod will be installed curb-to-curb at 7 am on W. Crawford St. from Main St. to the first alley west. Canadian nonprofit organization, Come Alive Outside, is behind the initiative, which seeks to replace screen time with nature time. Findlay is the 14th city to host a Green Street Challenge. This local edition being coordinated and sponsored by Grass Groomers and the Findlay Hancock County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Grass Groomers oversees the landscaping for the Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s downtown campus. The event is free, and is open to people of all ages. Families are encouraged to attend. Drop by to enjoy toys, games and activities provided by Camp Fire of Northwest Ohio, Awakening Minds Art, the Findlay Family YMCA, and BSA Scouts. At 11 am, a free yoga will be led by Hot Yoga Findlay. From 12 – 2 pm, visitors can enjoy a free lunch of hot dogs, chips, popcorn and bottled water provided by St. Andrew’s Church. Things wrap up at 7, when the sod, donated by Green Velvet Sod Farms, will be rolled up and delivered to a local Habitat for Humanity home. The date coincides with Oktoberfest, which takes place on Main Street from 2 – 10 pm. An Oktoberfest entrance gate is conveniently located within the Green Street Challenge area.
