December 3rd marks the first Sunday of Advent. Advent spans 4 Sundays, ending on Christmas Eve. First Presbyterian Church has a series of events open to the community through this season, culminating in Christmas Eve celebrations.
An Intergenerational Advent Celebration will take place at 10:30am on the 3rd. During this time, you can craft wreaths, make foam ornaments, and create Christmas cards for shut-ins. Feel free to bring canned goods to put into a reverse advent box, which will be offered on Christmas Eve.
A Lessons & Carols” service begins at 9:30am on December 10th. This traditional service involves a series of seasonal readings interspersed with familiar (and some less familiar) carols, and special anthems sung by the choir and children’s choir. If that’s not exactly your cup of tea, you may be more interested in the event later that day: Beer & Carols upstairs at Logan’s Irish Pub at 4:30pm! Dulcimers will be providing accompaniment, and booklets with words will  also be on hand.
The 10th is a very busy day for the church: they will also be hosting a free Holiday Community Dinner. The meal will be served at 11am, and is open to the public.
For those who have lost a loved one, or are lonely – especially at this time of year – a special Longest Night Service will help bring peace during this holiday season. It begins at 6pm in the sanctuary on the 21st.
Families are invited to a glowstick ‘candlelight’ service at 5pm Christmas Eve. Later, at 8pm on Christmas Eve, a Christmas Candlelight communion service will feature music choir and bell choir.
