D.T. DAVIS BUILDING

The three-story Davis Building (320 S. Main St) dates back to 1841, and is one of the oldest  structures in downtown Findlay. This building and several of its neighbors were a handful of properties previously owned by Hancock County that were slated for demolition after the flood in 2007. In 2014, though, a group of investors (FD Main Street) bought these properties as part of the revitalization plan for downtown Findlay and Dorney Plaza. The Davis building, now owned by Mallet Enterprises, was renovated for $1.1 million, a cost which was mitigated by part of a $325,000 historic preservation tax credit from the State of Ohio.
The fully-renovated building features many of the original components that were able to be saved, including the wood floors, doors, high ceilings, and exposed brick work.  All of the original ceiling beams are exposed, and many items have been recycled from other demolished buildings in the area. The main door, for example, is the door from the Grand Poobah Room of the former Elk’s building on Main Street. All of the building’s windows have been replaced, and the exterior has been power washed and painted in areas.
